1927: Patti Page was born in Muskogee, OK. Primarily a pop singer, she gained a monumental country hit in 1951 with her rendition of “The Tennessee Waltz.”

1931: Record producer Harold Shedd was born in Bremen, AL. Among his credits: Alabama’s “Mountain Music,” K.T. Oslin’s “80’s Ladies” and Glen Campbell’s “A Lady Like You.” Plus, he signed Billy Ray Cyrus, The Kentucky HeadHunters and Shania Twain to Mercury.

1949: Bonnie Raitt was born in Los Angeles. She joined Vince Gill on his single “Let’s Do Something” and contributed two songs to the “Urban Cowboy” soundtrack.

1949: Songwriter Gary Nicholson was born. He built such credits as Montgomery Gentry’s “She Couldn’t Change Me,” Patty Loveless’ “The Trouble With The Truth,” Vince Gill’s “One More Last Chance” and Highway 101’s “Someone Else’s Trouble Now.”

1956: Patsy Cline recorded “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “A Poor Man’s Roses (Or A Rich Man’s Gold)” at the Bradley Film & Recording Studio in Nashville.

1957: Elvis Presley played a convict, as the movie “Jailhouse Rock” was released.

1973: The animated Disney movie “Robin Hood” debuted in theaters with Roger Miller providing a voiceover and performing on the soundtrack. Others adding voices include Ken Curtis, George “Goober” Lindsey and Peter Ustinov.

1978: The Oak Ridge Boys recorded “Sail Away” during the afternoon at Woodland Sound Studio in Nashville.

1978: Willie Nelson’s “Willie & Family Live” album was released.

1980: Willie Nelson’s “On The Road Again” drove to the top spot on the Billboard country singles chart.

1990: Dolly Parton and Ricky Van Shelton recorded “Rockin’ Years” in Nashville.

1997: Shania Twain started a five-week reign on Billboard’s country chart with “Love Gets Me Every Time.”

2004: Kris Kristofferson was the first person enshrined at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in Nashville, as he receives the inaugural Orchid Award.
