In 1955 Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins were chatting backstage before a show in Bono, Arkansas. Johnny was telling a story about a former Air Force buddy with distinctive footwear. That story inspired Carl Perkins to write “Blue Suede Shoes.”
A decade later, we’d get to know Merle Haggard. Capitol released his album, “Strangers” on September 6, 1965. It was considered a hit, making it to #9 on the Billboard Country chart.
