Goshen Valley Volunteer Fire Department presents “The Firehouse Sessions

The Goshen Valley Volunteer Fire Department will present “The Firehouse Sessions” featuring The Lonesome River Band and Linda Lay and Springfield Exit at Volunteer High School, September 28, 2024. Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased from the Goshen Valley VFD membership.

The Lonesome River Band is an American contemporary bluegrass band and has released 15 recording projects since its formation in 1982. Shelor joined the Lonesome River Band in 1990 and has led the band since 2000, continuing to influence banjo players everywhere with his traditional blue-grass style. Sammy Shelor, a member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame is a 5-Time International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year Award recipient. The band experienced numerous personnel changes over the years and has not included an original member  since Tim Austin left the band in 1995 to focus on Doobie Shea Records. Formed in 2003 by Linda and David Lay (Appalachian Trail) and David McLaughlin (formerly with the Johnson Mountain Boys) to record a project for the Cracker Barrel record label, Americana. After putting their stamp on several of Cracker Barrel’s Heritage Series CDs, Linda and David Lay, along with David  McLaughlin, performed their first concerts at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and at the Lowell Massachusetts Folk Festival, receiving standing ovations and rave reviews. Springfield Exit is considered one of Virginia’s outstanding trios of singers. They have performed for audiences at several National Folk Festivals nationwide from Vermont to Washington state.

Goshen Valley Volunteer Fire Department’s service area is primarily rural residential with significant agricultural cattle and farming enterprises. Goshen Valley Volunteer Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with Green and Sullivan County volunteer fire departments and is first due mutual aid to the Cities of Church Hill, and Surgoinsville.
