Bristol TN/VA Celebrates 5th Annual Juneteenth Event
The Bristol Juneteenth Celebration Committee is proud to announce the annual Juneteenth Celebration, a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Scheduled for Saturday, June 15, 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm the event promises a day filled with enrichment, entertainment, food and fun.
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, marks the momentous occasion when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to announce the end of slavery, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Since then, Juneteenth has evolved into a symbolic day of remembrance and celebration of African American freedom and achievement.
The celebration will feature an array of activities and attractions for all ages, including:
- Live Performances: Enjoy a live reggae band, gospel, saxophonist, stand-up poetry and other local entertainment
- Food and Vendors: Free food and multiple vendors
- Community Engagement: Engage with local organizations and community members
- Family-Friendly Activities: Bring the whole family for a day of fun with a Bounce House for the children and other activities
The Juneteenth Celebration aims to foster a sense of community, promote cultural understanding, and honor the legacy of those who fought for freedom and equality. All members of the community are invited to join in this celebration.
