Member Monday – Ray Stevens

Ray Stevens found success not only with his comedy songs, but with more serious and spiritual efforts. Stevens wrote this song, which led to two Grammy wins in 1971. The song also performed well, reaching #1 in numerous countries and genres.

Ray is a multi instrumentalist and has contributed to country music in so many ways. For example, he provided backing vocals and played the organ on one of Waylon’s biggest hits…

Ray Stevens earned a string of hits into the 1980s. One of his more popular songs was originally recorded in 1984 and reached #20 on the country charts. A video cassette of music videos would be released years later, sending the song into a whole new level of popularity.

The Streak” became the biggest country hit of Ray Stevens’ career. It also spent 3 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. For his songwriting efforts, Stevens was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1980.
