1931: Elliott Charles Adnopoz was born in Brooklyn, NY. Better known as Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, he became an influential folk singer/songwriter and wrote Johnny Cash’s 1965 country hit “Mister Garfield.

1958: Johnny Cash signed with Columbia Records, where he remained for more than 25 years.

1960: The East German newspaper Young World branded Elvis Presley as “public enemy #1.”

1964: Roy Orbison recorded “Oh, Pretty Woman” in Fred Foster’s Nashville recording studio.

1966: Merle Haggard recorded “The Fugitive” at the Capitol Recording Studio in Hollywood.

1966: George Ducas was born in Texas City, TX. His edgy, guitar-driven music finds the Top 10 in 1994 via “Lipstick Promises.” He also wrote Radney Foster’s “Just Call Me Lonesome,” The Eli Young Band’s “Always The Love Songs” and Sara Evans’ “A Real Fine Place To Start.”

1973: Epic released Charlie Rich’s “Behind Closed Doors” album.

1981: MTV debuted in 2.1 million homes. The rock video channel periodically included a country artist in its programming, giving occasional play to Hank Williams Jr., Dwight Yoakam and Eddie Rabbitt.

1981: Hank Williams Jr.’s New York-snubbing “Dixie On My Mind” hit #1 on the Billboard country singles chart.

1981: Kix Brooks married his wife, Barbara.

1984: Hank Williams Jr. shot the video to “All To My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight” with Kris Kristofferson, George Thorogood, Willie Nelson, Porter Wagoner, George Jones, Cheech & Chong, Jim Varney, Mel Tillis and Waylon Jennings.

1989: RCA released Keith Whitley’s “I Wonder Do You Think Of Me” album.

1992: Brooks & Dunn’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” began a four-week residence at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart.

1995: John Michael Montgomery’s self-titled album was released.

1998: Garth Brooks reached #1 on the Billboard country chart with a Bob Dylan song, “To Make You Feel My Love.”

2003: Barbara Mandrell appeared on the Home Shopping Network, debuting her new Barbara Mandrell Collection of teddy bears.

2019: Garth Brooks’ Teammates For Kids Foundation announced a partnership with Major League Baseball. Working with players from all 30 teams, he launched the Home Plate Project – and ultimately? He raised $900-thousand to fight childhood hunger.
