1927: A.P. and Sara Carter, members of The Carter Family, had a son, Joe Carter, in Maces Spring, VA.
1935: Steel guitarist Norm Hamlet was born in Woodside, CA. As a member of Merle Haggard’s band, The Strangers, Hamlet plays on “Ramblin’ Fever,” “Big City” and “If We Make It Through December.” He also taught Barbara Mandrell to play steel.
1961: Marty Robbins’ “Don’t Worry,” featuring a signature fuzz guitar solo, hit #1 on the Billboard country chart.
1962: Mel Tillis and Danny Dill helped Carl Perkins finish writing “So Wrong” in Nashville. Patsy Cline recorded it the next day.
1964: Dottie West recorded “Here Comes My Baby.”
1970: Tammy Wynette recorded “He Loves Me All The Way” at the Columbia Recording Studios in Nashville.
1976: Crystal Gayle recorded “You Never Miss A Real Good Thing (Till He Says Goodbye)” and “Ready For The Times To Get Better” in an evening at Jack’s Tracks in Nashville.
1980: Kenny Rogers won Best Country Vocal Performance, Male, for “The Gambler” during the 22nd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. “You Decorated My Life” won Best Country Song for songwriters Bob Morrison and Debbie Hupp.
1981: RCA released the Alabama album “Feels So Right.”
1981: Columbia released Rosanne Cash’s album “Seven Year Ache.”
1982: Don Williams’ “Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good” reached the top spot on the Billboard country singles chart.
1990: Arista released Alan Jackson’s debut album, “Here In The Real World.”
1993: “What Part Of No” took Lorrie Morgan to #1 on the Billboard country singles chart.
