1964: Columbia released Johnny Cash’s two-sided single “The Ballad Of Ira Hayes” backed with “Bad News”
1978: United Artists released Crystal Gayle’s “When I Dream” album.
1985: Roger Miller and the Broadway production of “Big River” won seven Tony awards, including Best Musical and Best Score.
1986: Warner Bros. released Randy Travis’ major label debut, “Storms Of Life.”
1992: Doug and Ricky Lee Phelps publicly announced their resignation from The Kentucky HeadHunters. The following year, they released an album as a duo, Brother Phelps.
1992: Martina McBride began her first major concert tour, opening for Garth Brooks at McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, CO. Chris LeDoux also performed on the bill.
1998: Helen Carter died in Nashville. A member of The Carter Sisters, she was a regular performer on “The Johnny Cash Show” and wrote a handful of hits, including Margie Bowes’ “Poor Old Heartsick Me” and Cash’s “Rosanna’s Going Wild.”
1998: MCA releases Reba McEntire’s “If You See Him” album. Not to be outdone, Arista releases Brooks & Dunn’s “If You See Her” album on the same day.
2014: Steel guitarist Weldon Myrick dies at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville of a stroke. He played on such hits as Connie Smith’s “Once A Day,” George Strait’s “You Look So Good In Love,” Reba McEntire’s “Little Rock” and Sammi Smith’s “Help Me Make It Through The Night.“
